One of the most controversial and charismatic personalities in post-war motor racing, Jochen Rindt's tempestuous career ended in tragedy when, poised to take the World Championship, he was killed during final practice for the 1970 Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The 28-year-old Austrian did not live to see his greatest ambition realised, but became the only posthumous title holder in the 41-season history of the series. Containing a succession of recollections and anecdotes from people who worked with Rindt throughout his career, this Autocourse profile is published to mark the 20th anniversary of his death. It charts Jochen's action-packed seven years in international racing from the time he exploded into the headlines in 1964 by winning a Formula Two event at Crystal Palace through to his splendid sequence of victories with the Lotus 72 during the high summer of 1970.
